New Year, New Word: Strength
What's your one word to summarize your goals for the new year?
We like to measure things in our culture. Square footage, TV screens, waistlines, time, even our own worth. Way too often, waistlines and worth get lumped together. And at the beginning of each year, we we punch that cultural reset button and say we need to change things to be better people. To be happy. So we get gym memberships and throw all the chips in the trash and take all the cookies to work or school so we won't eat them anymore.
"This year is going to be the best year," we say, and we resolve to make better choices. To change habits. To be stronger.
Let's start the year with the biggest change of all. Let's all agree to define our worth differently. Let's get healthy instead of skinny. Let's get gym memberships to feel good and get strong, not to compete with magazine covers. And let that strength of mind, of heart and soul be the new measure of your worth. Not your waistline.
Because, darnit, you're the most beautiful person in the room. And your strength won't disappear if you eat a cookie every now and and then.
So, what's your word?
